Leave Those Leaves!

The Nature Conservancy of Canada has some awesome news for you!  Not a fan of raking up leaves? Just don’t do it!

Here are three major benefits to leaving the leaves right where they fall:
• It helps biodiversity:  Many native insects and even some small critters such as frogs and toads love to hibernate under the leaves during winter.
• Leaves are a food source for birds:  Birds such as robins often flip leaves over to look for insects to snack on.
• It’s good for your lawn:  Leaves provide a natural mulch when they break down, which helps soil development. Large piles of leaves can impact the growth of grass and other plants BUT a thin layer of leaves can help maintain the health gardens and lawns.
